Sails were the material we gathered around, and the runway was our use case. Over a series of design sessions, we considered where these sails came from and how that function had informed what the highly technical textile could become. It was lightweight, durable, and already altered with large metal rings, rope, and typography. We prototyped directly on the body, collaborating to combine our diverse design and craft skills. What emerged is a series of ballgowns that capture the rough winds and waves of the sea, and give second lives to the materials that let us traverse them.
